Bethany is a northern Virginia native. As a four-year-old, she fell in love with the violin and was inspired to play. At the age of 6, Bethany began private lessons, and as an intermediate violinist, she began taking lessons from Lynne Denig, an instructor of The Paul Rolland String Method. In middle school, Bethany served as the concert mistress of The Youth Orchestra of Fairfax, and in high school, Bethany was the first violinist of the Northern Virginia String Quartet under the instruction of Barbara Gholz. Chamber music continues to be one of Bethany’s passions as she encourages her students to participate in chamber groups, as well as, teaching chamber groups throughout her college career. Bethany has maintained a private violin studio since 2010. She has had the opportunity to attend The Rolland Pedagogy Workshop for five consecutive years under the instruction of Rolland directors Lynne Denig, Darlene Murphy, and Peter Rolland. In May of 2017, Bethany graduated from the School of Music at Maranatha Baptist University with a BA in String Pedagogy and Performance. While at Maranatha, Bethany studied under the tutelage of Lewis Rosove, principal violist of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. For two years, Bethany served as the concert mistress for Maranatha’s Symphony Orchestra, and was also first violin in a string quartet that she organized her senior year. While in college, Bethany taught private violin lessons, group classes, music theory classes, and Early Childhood Music classes. Her goal is to influence the next generation of musicians and instill in them not only the needed techniques to achieve the desired musical level, but also the life-long goal of creating beautiful music. Bethany’s overarching passion is creating and sharing beautiful music with others. She has dedicated her life to the instrument she loves and to teaching students of all ages.
Teaching music requires skill, passion, and a desire to see the next generation of musicians excel in quality music education. Music making should have the ultimate goal of the enjoyment of music. My personal goal is to instill into each of my students a life-long love for music and quality music making.
